European Federation for Landscape Architecture (EFLA) Regional Congress “Mind the Gap. Landscapes for a New Era“, takes place in Tallinn, 2-4 November 2011.
Cities are like living organisms: they can grow and flourish but they can also shrink, regress or decline. Each one of these processes has a direct impact on the quality of life. Now that more than half of the World’s population is living in the urban areas, the future of our cities defines the future of mankind.
In November 2011 landscape architects and other related professionals are warmly welcomed to Tallinn (Estonia) to participate in the European Federation for Landscape Architects (EFLA) regional congress “Mind the Gap. Landscapes for a New Era“.
The aim of this congress is to share knowledge and understanding between the academics and professionals about the creation of urban realm through intertwining the various spheres it consists of. From such interaction with city environments, gaps in urban structure and urban life will start to appear. We are better prepared for the challenge by exploring and understanding these gaps when aiming to create appropriate and unique environments with quality of life and living in mind.
What are the long-term consequences to the possible deformation of today’s landscapes if the gaps affecting the urban environment are to be ignored?
Should we aim to work on the local or focus on global scale? Which steps do we need to take when endeavoring to create a sustainable urban environment?
We invite all landscape architects and other professionals in related fields to submit an abstract under the congress session topics (available at www.efla2011.com). This event will provide the opportunity to exchange views, share experiences and solutions to achieve the landscapes of the new era and define the modern cityscape.
