Excursion waterpower station Åmli

Sharing culture and nature you’re close to use the nature for the needs of a culture. In other words: use a waterpower to make electric energy. It was good to see the stony marks of today in a landscape that took thousands of years to become so dramatic. The contrast between natural and concrete rocks, natural and artificial waterfalls was very strong. You can see in the landscape very clear the Norwegians use clean energy. Almost 100% of the electricity in Norway comes from streaming water.
The waterpower station we visited was made by a new concept. They didn’t make big dams that cut the natural stream, but several smaller dams. In this way there’s only a little difference in the natural water level, although the character of the stream changes. What used to be a winding line of water changes into the flat surface of a lake.
The inhabitants of the village nearby at first disliked the idea of making a powerplant but now they are glad. It was an injection for the local economy and it gives new possibilities for recreation.
In this waterpowerplant they made an investment of 2,8 million NOK to make the influence of the powerplant on landscape and nature acceptable. They were busy in making an education program with display – boards, slides and models. It looked interesting and very professional.
