International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA)
IFLA is the worldwide body of Landscape Architects and as such a non-political organization.It has the following objects:
- To develop and promote the profession of Landscape Architecture together with its related arts and sciences throughout the world.
- To establish the profession of Landscape Architecture in its continuing role as an instrument of aesthetic achievement and social change for the public welfare.
- To identify and preserve the intricate balance of these ecological systems upon which the future of civilization depends.
- To establish high standards of professional practice in design of the landscape, its management, conservation and development and the responsibility for manmade change.
Members of IFLA are primarily the national associations of Landscape Architects.
The GRAND COUNCIL is the governing body of IFLA. It meets once a year and elects the President, the first Vice-President, the Regional Vice-Presidents, a Secretary-General and a Treasurer.

All Regions are again devided in the northern and the southern part. The northern part of the Central Region has in 1986 formed the Regional Council of Europe (RCE).
ELASA has two elected delegates to participate at IFLA’s annual world congresses. ELASA has established two observers places at the Grand Council. It is a problem with the finances to participate at IFLA’s world congress; it is the elected delegates responsability to get the money to go there.
In 1994 ELASA had one delegate at IFLA’s world congress in Mexico City. IFLA’s world congress 95 will be held in Bankok, Thailand.
